The buzzword “metaverse” is omnipresent, but finding an entry point to the topic is rather difficult. Where are we right now on this journey into the metaverse? Where does VR technology actually come from and which path will it take? How does the concept of “avatars” work and how do you navigate virtual spaces in the first place? In the event location Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche, these questions will not only be answered to, but it also provides an opportunity for exchange and a selected speaker program in the network area. What’s in store for you:

  • XR hardware: The journey into the metaverse begins with these tools.
  • Traveling together: How do interactions and avatars work in virtual reality?
  • Virtual space: How can I use the virtual environment?
  • Network area: Exchange ideas with other participants and listen to the lecture program

Opening hours: Friday 15:00 - 20:00 and Saturday 11:00 - 18:00

The Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche (Church of the Holy Cross) was built between 1927 and 1929 according to the plans of architect Josef Franke. For 80 years it provided space for almost 1000 churchgoers. After the church was decommissioned in 2007, the city decided to purchase the building and convert it into a highly prestigious event venue. The hall, which holds about 800 visitors, has become a venue for concerts, comedy and cabaret, as well as receptions, congresses and events of all kinds. Almost 100 years after its construction, the listed building, which is exemplary of brick expressionism in the Ruhr region, has once again become a meeting place in the neighborhood for people from near and far.
