Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche
The Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche was built between 1927 and 1929 according to the plans of architect Josef Franke and provided space for around 1,000 churchgoers for 80 years. After the church was decommissioned in 2007, the city decided to buy the building and convert it into a highly prestigious event centre. The hall, which can accommodate around 800 visitors, is now a venue for concerts, comedy and cabaret, as well as receptions, congresses and events of all kinds. Almost 100 years after its construction, the listed building, which is an example of brick expressionism in the Ruhr region, is once again a meeting point in the neighbourhood and a meeting place for people from near and far.
